Welcome to the November edition of the SecureByte Gazette, our monthly recap of what’s new at Logically, including upcoming events, cyberattacks in the news, and the latest content on our website.
As we activate full holiday mode, it’s important to remember that hackers don’t take the holidays off. In fact, cyberthreats increase this time of year as phishing scams and malicious actors target stressed shoppers, bargain hunters, and distracted employees who might provide an “in” to your network.
In addition to our normal roundup of content and notable news, we’ve included tips from one of Logically’s cybersecurity experts to help you stay safe from cyberattacks this holiday season.
If you want to speak with an expert about how Logically’s cyber-first solutions and services can increase your security profile and reduce your risk, we’re always here!
In this episode of Logically Speaking, host Steve Rivera sits down with Max Alexander, Vice President of Cyber and Technology Emerging Threats Research at JPMorgan Chase.
During their conversation, Max reveals common tactics, techniques, and procedures used by big-name threat actors. He also explains how to educate employees to avoid unintentional insider threats and why every company needs an incident and recovery plan.
The alarming data breaches at Boeing and Cook County Health, the crippling attack on Südwestfalen IT affecting 70 German municipalities, and a comprehensive exploration of the vital reasons why businesses must prioritize monthly pen testing. Inside Information from Our Team of Experts
Q: What are your best cybersecurity tips as we go into the holidays?
Much like we set reminders to change air filters and smoke detector batteries when we change our clocks at the beginning and end of daylight savings time, as the holiday season approaches, it’s a great time to focus on cybersecurity—especially if you plan to shop online.
Here are some tips to keep your personal data and your financial accounts safe from cyber threats when shopping online during the holidays.
Take a moment to conduct crucial cybersecurity maintenance:
Update your computer systems and software.
Enhance your password security by using different and complex passwords.
Implement multifactor authentication (MFA) on websites and systems.
Confirm that you're on legitimate, secure company websites by checking for HTTPS instead of HTTP in the URL (address bar).
Avoid shopping through sponsored links or ads; opt for direct access to the company's website.
Stay alert for phishing emails or text messages (smishing) and never disclose passwords or personal financial information through unsolicited emails or text messages.
Opt for using a credit card over a debit card for purchase protection and limited access to your bank account.
Keep a close eye on your credit card transactions through online monitoring or an alerting service.
Remain vigilant, and if in doubt, seek assistance from your trusted advisor. Happy and secure holidays!
